Honestly, Lucy needed to unwind and what better way to do that than to lose her mind at a concert? Having recently stumbled upon this Artist’s music who called himself ‘Hartless’ the blonde wanted to see what he was all about. All for new experiences, she had purchased tickets a while back deciding that it wouldn’t hurt to give this person a whirl- to see what they were all about optimistic that she’d be in for a good time. From what it appeared Hartless had been all the rage lately which had the doe eyed blonde wildly interested to find out what the hype had been. Ever the collector of all kinds of music, for all Lucy knew he could be the next new Artist to dazzle her music library. What Lucy didn’t know is that she knew this person. Perhaps not this version in this life time, but she knew Hartless at his core, knew him when he was a she instead.

Anyway, the day of the concert had been upon all of New York. Social media feeds that Lucy hadn’t followed had been raving, along with various online blogs and even music articles buzzing about the anticipation that the night would hold. Lucy hadn’t been dressed in Hartless merch, not like the others around her but in clothing that made her feel comfortable which...made her stick out like a sore thumb. Not everyone had been dressed in the attire either, but mostly everyone who’d attended had been clad in something Hartless in one form or another. That didn’t deter her from believing she’d have any less of a good time! With her ticket scanned now milling in through a number of bodies, Lucy had been lucky to have nabbed a floor seat. Even better when she found herself up against the barricade.

This wasn’t her first concert ever so she knew what to expect, and well-- here’s to some bruised rips and hip bones for sure. Fangirls and boys get rowdy and have no problem squishing people in the front row to the point some can’t breathe. With that lovely though put aside, around her the fans had been chattering, thrumming with excitement and it only made Lucy even more curious as to what all the rage had been. She had done a little listening here and there but had never dedicated time to actually listen to what this Hartless guy had been singing out. Looks like she’d find out here real soon, now wouldn’t she? Naturally there would be a few smaller known Artists performing before the flaming haired heart throb, music she found had been pretty decent.

Thumbing the names of the bands on stage into her phone’s notepad for later, Lucy would just HAVE to share these with Marcel and even pull some tracks for him so they could go over and talk about this whimsical adventure. When the last small act had finished-- that’s when the crowd of people around her REALLY began to lost their shit. With a small smile, Lucy took one look around herself to get a glimpse of the madness, the blonde turned her face to look front and center watching the stage hands move about setting things up preparing everything this Hartless guy would need.

bury me and fade to black
Rory loved to perform, loved to be on stage. Due to that, he often played outside of his tours. This particular event was quite large, though it was something he'd signed onto only a few months ago. Having his moniker plastered across it brought a great deal more interest, the show eventually selling it. It was a good feeling, not only knowing his fans loved him so but that he was bringing them to see the new up and comings. Rory had a penchant for lending a hand to those who were still struggling. The talents opening for him tonight were all bands he'd listened to, all bands he'd taken time out of his life to lend his ear and he'd thought each of them deserved the chance to shine. It was up to them to carry themselves obviously, but he thoroughly enjoyed being the one to give them a shot. Good karma and all that.

He'd spent the majority of the concert just off stage, watching the new talent perform rather than in his dressing room. What good was he there, hidden away? No, he liked to be out in the thick of things, though he wasn't about to put himself into the audience. Even if his face wouldn't have started a minor riot, he had no desire to be squeezed in among so many people. Rory very much liked his personal space and though he'd pressed himself into the audience before, hands reaching for him, grasping for any part of him, he'd done that to himself, mentally prepared for it. He wasn't so keen on that tonight, though he knew it would come later when he went to leave. That he was prepared for at least and truthfully, it brought a smile to his face. Here he was loved, adored even. People ran to him rather than away and he hadn't seen terror in anyone's eyes in years. It was a beautiful thing.

When it finally came time for him to take the stage, the crowd was waiting for him. He'd finally let his gaze shift outwards and into the audience. He'd shifted to elsewhere on the stage, behind something or other so that he wouldn't be seen, so his face wouldn't set off the people waiting for him. That was for later, for now he simply wanted to take stock of those who were so eager to see him, to hear his music. A faint grin was spread across his face as he peered out across the crowd. He reminded himself that these people were here for him. Everywhere he looked he saw his face, his lyrics, his very essence out there in the world. It brought him a solace he'd never had, even as a reigning sovereign. He'd never tire of this, he knew and even though their were pieces missing, he could survive on this. He was enough.

That's what he told himself, anyway. His eyes caught blonde hair, but he filed the observation away. Too many times in his life here he'd done a double take, turned to try and catch a glimpse of a child or young woman who he thought he'd recognized. Years ago he'd stopped that, though blonde hair would continue to draw his eye despite himself. Alice was long gone and even if she were here, even if she were around, he doubted she'd be glad to see him in an capacity if she even recognized him. Part of him so desperately wished he could find those who he'd known once, but then again a deeper part warned him that they wouldn't much care to know him these days. To say he'd been awful, cruel, terrible... those things were true, but so very limited. He'd been fucking insane.

Rory finally took the stage to hundreds of screaming fans and it was bliss. His set list included some of his favorite songs, including two covers of songs by artists he was particularly fond of. It wouldn't be until about a quarter of the way through his third song that he'd finally lay eyes on a woman he'd never thought he'd see again.

Little Alice, though she wasn't quite so little any longer.

Experience would be what saved him from jacking up his lyrics, though his eyes had caught hers and he'd paused. Not long enough to merit any real notice, but it had felt like a fraction of a second had frozen in time. She'd been looking up at him, a puzzled look on her face. What she was thinking he hadn't any idea, that wasn't his gift. He couldn't read her thoughts, only push them, but he didn't want to do that either. No no, whatever was in the lovely head of hers he had to let run wild. He'd finished the song, begun a new one. He'd reached out into the crowd, grin on his face to hide the new anxiety welling up in him. He knew his music like he knew himself, but this allowed his own mind to descend into a certain amount of madness dredging up a great deal of what ifs. He pushed them aside of course, he had no choice. He'd returned to the part of the stage where she was, pressed right up to the barrier, her eyes searching him as he'd sung a few lines right to her, as he'd reached out towards her. He'd touched her hand but only for a moment, it was all he could spare lest those around her crush her, crush one another. Rory pulled back, dancing back onto the stage and finished out the set list. Another glance to the front, towards Alice, and the performance was coming to an end. As always, it was much too soon but then again he was almost eager to depart the stage. Alice put a strangeness in him he couldn't quite place and when he finally came off stage, he wasn't sure what to do with himself.

He'd called someone back stage after a performance before, done it with Sophia when he'd seen her crazy hair. To have Alice collected and brought back to his dressing room would be nothing for him, his ability to manipulate the thoughts and minds around him gave him the power to do as he pleased with little repercussion. Still, when he'd finally gotten to his dressing room, chewing on his lip the whole way, he'd shut himself in with only one instruction. Should anyone come calling for him, a girl with blonde hair and blue eyes, he'd take her. Anyone else, of course, would be politely declined, but blonde hair and blue eyes could come... if that was what she even wanted.

You answer quite slowly A girl with kaleidoscope eyes
Well this concert while very lively for others had been vastly a different experience for Lucy, a girl who couldn’t help but to stare at the persona known as Hartless on stage as if he had been someone she knew. All the while of being jostled from side to side, squished and even knocked into a good few times all while holding a fleeting gaze with the flaming haired man with the voice so hypnotic that she swears she’s heard it in another lifetime. Perhaps in her dreams, the ones she’s been told over and over had been nothing but figments of her imagination that her brain had cooked up. Told that all of these things she spoke about to her shrinks had been nothing but her minds interpretations of things from various occurrences from the outside world manifesting in ways the subconscious decided to present to her.

Lucy was calling bullshit on all the professional phooey as only she knew what she felt, there was always going to be that disconnect when talking to someone who had never been to the world she’d been talking about except for those who had been there themselves. Trust me, that does sound crazy-- and probably is to those of the plain mundane world, but this voice-- that gaze-- this person-- the blonde with large doe eyes knew the person behind the persona Hartless. In fact it had been the only thing she’d been able to think about the whole show other than focusing on the show he had put on for a screaming arena around her that had seemingly disappeared the moment she got lost in her thoughts.

Maurice, her current Shrink-- at least Lucy was sure that was his name and not something she had just branded him with out of spite because why treat him with respect when he doesn’t treat her with an ounce of any? Anyway, Maurice would have told Lucy that what she had been feeling during this concert-- this disconnected feeling is what they in the psychological world would call disassociation. Dissociation can be regarded as a coping mechanism or defense mechanisms in seeking to master, minimize or tolerate stress-- including boredom or conflict. When the blonde had come through it had come to her that the show had ended, but the questions bubbling within her that had sent her seemingly at ease mind before the show tail spinning.

The whole point of coming to this show had been to let go, to have fun and enjoy herself to some harmless music but after that performance? Lucy hadn’t been so sure being here had been in her best interest-- or if the music had been harmless after all... Why did it feel like those eyes had been pleading her to come see him? To find him? Why did it feel like her mind had been reeling? As if she’d fallen down some grand hole and seemingly couldn’t grab ahold onto anything to stop herself from the inevitable landing that might be painful? Rubbing at her eyes trying to clear her head that felt all messed up just as it had felt when on some heavy pills prescribed to her by the shrinks in the past, Lucy took a moment to steady herself with a few breathing exercises she learned to do in moments like these when her sister scolded her most.

Instead of exiting the arena like all the others who filed on out, Lucy had been collected and before she could comply verbally-- her feet had been going along with the person who was bringing her down a long hall of the backstage. Maybe she just needed some water, after all it was hot in that pit of people and being at the barrier of all places? That was a rough place to be, especially at a concert where everyone seemingly wanted a piece of the person behind the lyrics. Deeper and deeper she went, the harder she worked to keep her mind at bay making sure she didn’t just imagine the whole performance. At least from what she had caught it was a great show and from all the faces around them-- they seemed to all love it too, but at the heart of her very soul it left her wondering; who are you?

Deposited outside of the room of which Hartless had been in, Lucy’s heart had been pounding. Typically not the nervous sort, she had been through a lot in this life and well, going through the motions and the taunting of her mind with voices of her sister and Maurice echoing within her awfully loud it made things a little harder to concentrate on. Lucy was going to knock on the door but before she could, the security had informed her of everything and told her just to wait a moment or two and someone should be out to collect her to bring her within the walls to meet the very person whom she just saw up onstage. Another person, who she assumed had been the PR manager of sorts had been talking Lucy up about the chance to meet Hartless in person had been something she’d never forget and something to be excited about. All the blonde could do was offer up an unsure smile and a little laughter purely conjured out of the nerves twisting in her stomach. Would this be how she felt in the stars presence? Probably not but with the anticipation of everything...it was how she felt in the mean time.

C’mon Lucy, get a grip. You are not one to get star struck! Are you even star struck? God...get with it! and before she knew it, the door to let her on in had been opened and in she had been ushered. ”Ah--”

Apparently his desire to meet Alice once more had preceded his efforts of not forcing her into said meeting. His head of security had knocked on his door, informing him that a blonde haired, blue eyed woman had been selected from the crowd for a meet and greet and it was all he could do not to slam his face into the wall. It wasn't often his abilities reached out on their own, twisting people's thoughts to suit him without him even realizing he was doing it. That was something that he'd done as the Queen, unintentional but still potentially damning. He'd had no idea he even possessed this ability until he'd wound up in NYC. As Queen, he'd simply thought people did what they were told out of fear. While it was true to an extent, even people who didn't want to do his bidding had folded to him if he'd been angry enough. Apparently the anxiety he felt at meeting Alice once more, the urge to speak with her, to perhaps... explain himself? No no, that wasn't it. He wasn't sure what he wanted to do with the girl at all, really but some deep part of him had called to her and his ability had turned it into reality.

He'd waved his head of security off, agreeing to meet this blonde headed girl. He knew it would be her, knew they wouldn't have selected just any blonde head. He'd held her image in his mind's eye since the moment he'd seen her and he was sure it would have imprinted onto those he'd inadvertently manipulated into doing his will. Within moments Alice would be standing outside his door, for better or worse. He chewed on his lip, pacing his dressing room. He'd changed his shirt, dried the sweat from his face. He wore more performance makeup, the jewelry that typically adorned him sitting on his dressing table. He didn't want to meet her as Hartless, not really. He probably should have, probably should have tried to deter any recognition of him with gaudy jewelry. He already looked so different though, crimson red hair cropped long for a man, but short for a woman in place of long, straight black tresses. His body, though with its marked differences, was still slight of frame, he was still the same height, still held himself very similarly. He was a delicate man and though he had an intimidating presence, when he smiled he gained a boyish charm that he'd never had in Wonderland. Then again, he'd smiled so rarely back then that who was to see this face wasn't reminiscent of his last? He continued to pace.

A knock came at his door and he froze. He paused a moment, a jumble of thoughts racing through his head. He could just turn her away, say he was feeling ill. That was a coward's way out of course, but his resolve was failing. He took a breath then, pushing the chatter in his head away and opened the door.

His PR manager stood with her, the little Alice girl who wasn't so little anymore. Rory immediately desired the man's dismissal and though no words passed from the singer's lips, the manager was already making excuses as to his prior engagements. Another few sentences, mostly talking about how a few photos would need to taken, how the girl would receive a few tokens after the meet and greet to take along with her, tokens of course that Rory would sign, and more jazz that Rory wasn't actually paying attention to and he was saying his good byes. Perhaps it wasn't as convincing as it could have been, this strangely set up meet and greet, but Rory hadn't exactly planned it with articulation.

Alice stood in front of him, eyes wide and still standing in his doorway. A moment of silence passed between them, she obviously trying to find something to say and he staring at her trying to figure out what the hell to do. Time returned to him a second later and he put a smile on his face, moving out of the doorway. "Sorry, I'm still turned to ten. Takes me a bit to come back to Earth after being on stage," not exactly a lie, but there was much more to his scattered thoughts. He let her come into the room, letting the door shut behind her. He didn't lock it, didn't even bother to ensure it was closed tight lest she decide she knew he was and turned and ran. He wouldn't blame her, though honestly he was hoping that's not the direction this was heading in. "A pleasure, miss...?" Alice wouldn't be her name, not here. Not now. Though, her world hadn't quite been Wonderland, had it? Maybe she was Alice? Regardless, spewing forth a name, whether it was hers or some incarnation of hers, would probably be met with awkwardness. He held his hand out towards her in greeting, though made sure to keep a polite amount of space between them.

Ushered into the star’s room who had claimed to still be turned up to ten, Lucy had looked over her shoulder to see the door being closed. At least it was still unlocked, though she hadn’t been too worried about that at the moment. The blonde wasn’t scared, a little confused perhaps, suspicious even-- but not scared so that was good. Comforting to know that if she wanted out that all she would have to do is simply leave. What Lucy didn’t understand is out of everyone in the crowed that could have been selected, she...the one not dressed up in the merch that supported him had been chosen. Peeling her eyes away from the door to look back to the person of whom she just watched perform on stage, it was then she caught he was in the middle of looking for something to address her by. ”Lucy- just call me Lucy, please.” She said as a smile formed on her lips.

Before Rory could even continue on, Lucy had been back to herself where her slightly disoriented feeling had passed leaving her ready to break out the questions that were rolling through her ever turning mind. ”So now that you know what to call me, what should I call you as I know ‘Hartless’ isn’t anything at all reasonable to address someone as.” Unless of course it was their actual name, but in this case-- it obviously was not. Perhaps it was a bit aggressive right off the bat-- it wasn’t intended to be as such or maybe it had. After all, the experience she just had watching him out there had been quite peculiar. ”Also... out of all the screaming fans, not that I’m not thankful for this chance meeting, why me? Why was I the one singled out and allowed to come back here?” Laying it on thick there, Luce. Pausing herself with a smile that begged forgiveness for the time being- the blonde would wait for some answers before drilling him with more questions. Was only fair right?

After her spill of questions, Lucy finally reached out to accept the hand that had been held out to her where she gave a firm yet gentle shake only to pause. ”Curious and curiouser...” Odd... that feeling when watching him perform had come back the moment she touched his hand. Why did he feel so familiar yet look, sound and be so foreign to her? Huh. Scanning the room for somewhere to sit down knowing that this was probably going to turn into a lengthy conversation (granted she didn’t get thrown out of here) the blonde had found a couch to lower herself down into to get comfortable. Thank god for that, too-- her feet were killing her. ”Do people often tell you that you come off as a familiar stranger?”

Lucy. It was fitting and Rory couldn't help but return her smile. So far it seemed that Alice-- Lucy, hadn't recognized him. That seemed to be a running trend and he was glad for it. She had already begun talking, asking what to call him then and he almost laughed. He realized that she had no merch on, wearing just regular clothes and with that, she probably wasn't a hard core fan. That didn't bother him and truthfully, it was almost better that way. It meant she didn't come with any thoughts or feelings on him aside from what she'd just seen. She didn't come with expectations, at least not past any other person who was meeting someone people told her was relatively famous. She looked a bit disoriented, or rather had at any rate. She seemed to have collected herself well enough. "Rory." He answered her simply, his tone amused.

She'd then launched into further questions, speaking almost as soon as he'd given his name. She hadn't changed at all, not really. A thousand questions, all battling to be asked first. He'd liked her well enough last time around and then he hadn't exactly been completely together. This time he found her just as charming with her whimsical sort of ways. She'd finally taken hold of his hand to shake it, pausing with her hand clasped with his. Curious and curiouser... Rory tried not to let her words register surprise on his face. He was very good at covering emotion, but she was striking all sorts of chords with him. "Couldn't tell you," he lied smoothly, "My PR Director told me there was to be a meet and greet and I try not to argue with the man. He's quite pushy, in case you hadn't noticed," that much at least was true, Rory cracking a smile as Lucy released his hand. She took a seat on the sofa then, he moving to lean against his dressing table.

He chuckled when she asked him if people often told him that he came off as a familiar stranger. He ran a hand through locks of red hair, crossing his arms loosely over his chest afterwards. He shook his head somewhat, though his grin didn't fall. "Not really. Most people either know who I am, or I'm doing my best not to be noticed." Not overly modest, but at least it was true. He hadn't come across too many from Ioyipia and those who he had, hadn't put two and two together, thank the Gods. It was quite curious that he was starting to come across more, though. Perhaps something was happening? Rory pushed the thought away. The Void was something he'd left in his past. Hopefully he wasn't here in New York with chaos on its breath once more.

"So tell me, did you like the show? I'm going to take a stab in the dark here and assume you're not exactly my number one fan." His tone wasn't rude or condescending in the least, he was speaking to her casually with a smile on his face. It was nice to speak to someone who didn't quite know him, or rather who didn't think they knew him at any rate. She was a special sort, someone who fell into a category of people he desperately wanted to see and also, someone who mildly terrified him. He was expecting her to realize who he was at any moment, though he didn't let the anxiety show in his mannerisms. He'd gotten away with ignoring the Queen for years now, who was to say Alice would pin him on it now? Perhaps after this chance meeting they'd go their separate ways and never speak again. Perhaps they would. Rory wasn't quite sure which would be better.
